Our First Month

Just one month into our custodianship of Woodmill Outdoor Centre, our dedicated volunteers have already begun giving the site the transformation, love, and care it deserves. We’ve had highs and lows, but no matter the challenge our amazing team of dedicated volunteers have begun giving Woodmill the transformation, love and care it deserves.

The Highlights

We kicked off with a major site-wide clean-up to get ready for visitors from Scouting, Schools, our charity partners, and more. This has included everything from deep cleaning and cutting back overgrown areas to repairing walkways, improving accessible access, and re-certifying activity equipment.

Thanks to the hard work of our volunteers, we’ve also been able to keep the site open throughout the initial clean-up. We’ve welcomed visitors from local schools, community organisations, Scouting and Guiding, as well as our partner charities.

One big change under our custodianship is a significantly greater focus on evening use and we’ve been able to welcome Scouts and Sea Scouts from across Southampton to make use of this fantastic space during their weekly evening sessions.

Led by our Youth Team, a competition to design a new logo and badge has been launched. We’ve loved the designs that have been sent in so far by so many talented young people and adults and we can’t wait to see what the final winner looks like. If you’d like to enter, please send your entries to youth@southamptoncityscouts.org.uk. Good Luck!

Get Involved

Join our mission to transform Woodmill Outdoor Centre into Southampton's first youth campsite and non-profit activity centre. There are so many ways to help, from volunteering at our regular maintenance days, to helping answer bookings enquiries or planning and running activity sessions. Everyone is welcome to volunteer at Woodmill!

I'd like to get involved

  • Fencing - installing new fencing around the lake and camping areas to keep young people safe.

  • Gardening - clearing overgrown areas and tending to plants.

  • Replacing floors and re-painting walls

  • Upgrade and improve the heating system

  • Installing new water pipes and outside taps for washing boats and equipment

  • Improving the surface of the car park

  • and much more…
